What is Sturdy Built's Disc Brake Maintenance and Warranty?

STURDY BUILT BRAKES

STURDY BUILT TRAILER PARTS strongly recommends that brakes are installed on all axles of the trailer. Even if your state law does not require it, having brakes installed on all axles is a matter of safety. Make sure the brake actuator installed on your trailer is compatible with disc brakes. Using a brake actuator for use with drum brakes will NOT work. Before use, always perform a visual inspection to ensure proper performance. If traveling a long distance, inspect the brakes at each stop for proper opera on.

MAINTENANCE

The installation, repair or maintenance of disc brakes should be performed by an SAE certified technician. To extend the life of your disc brakes, use your trailer frequently! Using the trailer is the best regular maintenance you can do! Avoid prolonged storage of your trailer. On a monthly basis, drive the trailer to normal road speed and perform a complete stop. Repeat this 3-4 times. This will clean the rotors & actuate the caliper piston. Use your trailer frequently! If using the trailer in saltwater, thoroughly wash and rinse, with fresh water, each brake caliper and rotor immediately after submersion. Failure to immediately rinse the brakes with fresh water will significantly decrease the life of the disc brakes.

CHECK MONTHLY

Check the brake actuator reservoir for the proper brake fluid level, fill if needed. Inspect the brake pads, checking for excessive or uneven wear. Replace the brake pads if worn excessively. Check all brake lines and caliper fittings for leaks. Inspect the rotors for excessive wear, cracks, and scoring. Check the caliper mounting bracket bolts to ensure they are properly torqued.

YEARLY MAINTENANCE– Complete the following every 12 months

Flush and replace the brake fluid in the entire brake system. Brake fluid absorbs water over me which creates excessive corrosion. Replacing the fluid yearly will extend the life of the brake actuator and calipers along with increasing brake performance. Bleed the brakes according to the brake actuator instructions. Remove the guide bolts from the caliper, and remove the caliper from the rotor. Push out the stainless steel guide bolt sleeves from the rubber bushing. Liberally apply silicone based brake grease to the insides of the rubber bushing and the outside of the stainless sleeve. Reassemble. This will make sure your brake caliper continues to float freely over the rotor.
